It was narrated that Muadh ibn Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I said: - O Messenger of Allah, tell me a deed that will bring me to Paradise and keep me away from Hell, he said: I have asked great, and it is to walk on those whom Allah Almighty is pleased with: - You worship Allah and do not share anything with Him, and you establish prayer and pay zakaah and fast Ramadan and make pilgrimage to the house, then he said: - Do I not guide you to the gates of goodness? Fasting is a paradise, and charity extinguishes sin as water extinguishes fire, and a man's prayer in the dead of night, then he said: - Shall I not tell you the head of the command and its pillar and the height of its hump? I said: - Yes, O Messenger of Allah, he said: - The head of the matter is Islam, and its pillar is prayer, and the height of its hump is jihad, and then he said: - Didn't I tell you the angel of all that? I said: - Yes, O Messenger of Allah, and he took his tongue and said: - Stop this, I said: - O Prophet of Allah, and we are not guilty of what we speak? He said: "Your mother has bereaved you, O Mu'adh, and will people pour fire on their faces except the harvests of their tongues?"
