Range on all handheld VHF/UHF radios is line of sight; claims of 10-20
Kilometers are fiction unless you are communicating through a repeater
on a hill-top site. UHF is best for built up areas (Security) and VHF
for Urban use (Taxi Co. etc.). Other factors also effect range such as
output power, type of antenna etc. etc.
