Soaring impenetrably and perpendicularly from a rocky hill 120 metres above Jodhpur's skyline, Mehrangarh Fort is among India's most majestic forts. The fort's base blends with the battlements, which range in height from 6 to 36 metres. The building materials were carved out of the rock upon which the fort is situated. Rich in tradition and history, Mehrangarh is still owned by the Jodhpur royal family.
Along the walls of the ancient walled old city, for almost ten kilometres, lies a sea of boxy indigo dwellings. And THE place to see it is Jodhpur's Mehrangarh Fort! The fort may be accessed through two main gates. The least busy is Fateh Pol, which is connected to Navchokiya's old city centre, and if you wish to visit this amazing fort then you must hire the best taxi service in Jodhpur. Note: only the museum area requires a ticket; the fort itself is free to enter.
