Step 1: Encouraging Ovulation

The first phase commences with stimulating egg production using medications. This step aims to prompt the ovaries to produce eggs, thereby increasing the chances of fertilization. Close monitoring and regular ultrasounds are employed to ensure the development of these eggs.

Step 2: Retrieving Eggs

Once the eggs reach maturity, a minor surgical procedure called egg retrieval takes place. During this procedure, a fine needle is used to collect eggs from the ovaries. It requires precision and care, as its ultimate objective is to gather eggs for fertilization.

Step 3: Sperm Collection

Parallelly, the male partner provides a sperm sample that undergoes preparation to isolate high-quality sperm cells. The emphasis lies on selecting the healthiest and most motile sperm cells in order to enhance the likelihood of fertilization.

Step 4: Fertilization

The laboratory is where the exciting part takes place. Here, the eggs and sperm are brought together to initiate fertilization. This happens through a precise method called intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), where a single sperm is carefully injected into an egg. The ultimate aim is to generate healthy embryos that can be implanted successfully.

Step 5: Embryo Culture

During this phase, the embryos are carefully monitored in a controlled setting. This allows the embryologist to track their development and choose the candidates for transfer. Ongoing advancements in culture techniques contribute to optimizing the quality of the embryos.

Step 6: Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT)

In these situations, it is recommended to conduct testing on the embryos before implantation. This step increases the chances of a pregnancy. Reduces the risk of specific genetic conditions. It/s an approach that aligns with the aspirations of parents to help create a healthy child.

Step 7: Implanting Embryos

A significant milestone in the IVF treatment journey is transferring selected embryos into the uterus. This procedure is typically straightforward. It is done as an outpatient without anesthesia. The number of embryos transferred is one or two, decided through collaboration between the couple and their fertility specialist.

Step 8: Luteal Phase Support

To support the uterine lining and enhance embryo implantation possibilities, hormonal medications are prescribed during the luteal phase. This phase plays a role in pregnancy by creating an optimal environment for successful embryo establishment.

Step 9: Pregnancy Test

Around 10–14 days after embryo transfer, a pregnancy test is conducted to determine if IVF treatment has been successful.
The period of waiting can be quite emotional, highlighting the ups and downs that come with the journey towards fertility.
