The fourth generation Camaro was introduced for the 1993 model year. Wearing sleek new styling and with the powerful LT1 V-8 borrowed from the Corvette, the new Camaro was an instant hit. Performance was much improved over the previous generation, and most everyone was satisfied with the overall package. However, Chevrolet realized that there was a select few customers who wanted to race their Camaros on the weekends, or in the SCCA Showroom stock class. For this group of select hardcore enthusiasts, Chevrolet created the 1LE package. The 1LE package created a no frills, hardcore performance street/track car. Chevrolet produced only 135 1LE cars for the 1994 model year, and all were devoid of any power options, air conditioning, cruise control, T-tops, and fog lamps. This was meant to create the lightest possible car to improve handling.
