“I bought a ‘30 Ford wagon and we call it a woodie.” That’s the opening line in the hit song “Surf City” by Jan & Dean. These legendary cars have always been associated with fun. Even Hot Wheels had their own version, and it was a ‘37 like this one. 1937 is the first year Ford mounted their headlights in the front fenders. Henry Ford thought so highly of the future of wood in auto manufacturing that he purchased forest acreage so his company would have its own supply. This handsome example was cosmetically restored in the 1990’s, and was displayed in a museum collection before being acquired by the Maxwell family. These precious vehicles are quite rare. The exact number that survive today is unknown, but it is believed to be between 20 and 25.
