Did you know that your Cost category score contributes the same weight to your traditional MIPS final score as your Quality category score? It didn’t start that way when MIPS began in 2017. Starting with a 0% weight in 2017, the Cost category is now federally mandated to equal the weight of the Quality category in an eligible clinician’s traditional MIPS final score. To increase the critical need for attention, the Cost category was reweighted to 0% during 2020 and 2021, making the category appear to suddenly “come out of nowhere” to many clinicians.
