As someone who
has worked in the DOT compliance field for many years, I can tell you that SAP Evaluations are crucial to any return to duty process.
These types of evaluations can only be conducted by Substance Abuse
Professionals who make recommendations for employees who have violated
department of transportation DOT drug and alcohol regulations.
The purpose of a
SAP evaluation is to determine if an employee is fit for duty and to make
recommendations for treatment, if necessary. This evaluation is different than
a standard DOT return to duty evaluation because it is much more in-depth. The
DOT requires that all employees who have been found to have violated drug and
alcohol regulations must complete a SAP evaluation before they can return to
work.
The SAP
evaluation process can be divided into three parts: the initial assessment, the
recommendation, and the follow-up. The initial assessment is conducted by a SAP
and is used to determine if the employee is fit for duty and to make recommendations
for treatment, if necessary. The recommendation is then made to the employer,
who must make the final decision on whether or not to allow the employee to
return to work. The follow-up is conducted by the SAP to ensure that the
employee is following the treatment plan and to make sure that they are still
fit for duty.
There are many
different factors that a SAP will consider during the initial assessment, but
some of the most important ones include:
-
The
employee's history of drug and alcohol use
-
The
circumstances of the violation
-
The
employee's willingness to participate in treatment
-
The
employee's ability to comply with the DOT's return to duty requirements.
After the initial
assessment is complete, the SAP will make a recommendation to the employer.
This recommendation will include a treatment plan, if necessary. The employer
must then make the final decision on whether or not to allow the employee to
return to work.
Once the decision
has been made, the SAP will conduct a follow-up to ensure that the employee is
following the treatment plan and to make sure that they are still fit for duty.
This follow-up can be conducted in person or over the phone. To know more about SAP Evaluation Near you visit or call us now at: 800-683-7745.
